BASEF Innovation Award Winners
Congratulations to the following Hamilton-area students who won The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Innovation Award at BASEF (@BASEF) this year:
Nicholas Mertin, Grade 8, Hillfield Strathallan College
Chamber 1st Prize
Project Q14 – THE SXSR SIGNATURE RECOGNITION ENGINE
“I created a working signature recognition app that makes use of relatively new technology, such as pressure sensitivity, to increase security and efficiency, while being useable by the general public.”
Lukas Bauer and Kenji Marshall, Grade 9, Hillfield Strathallan College
Chamber 2nd Prize
Project Q13 – Heads up: Attentive Driving Device
“Distracted driving causes more car accidents than impaired driving. The purpose of our innovation was to create a computer system that senses and notifies the driver if their attention is not on the road. This is done using a laptop, a modified face-track program, and an Xbox 360 Kinect sensor.”
Emanuel Estrada Larios, Grade 10, Bishop Ryan
Chamber 3rd Prize
Project Q07 – Fold My Clothes
“The purpose of this project is to show how electronics and programming can be used to help people in every day chores. It involves hardware, software, PWM, and electronic components found in almost every device around us.”
