CBRE ranks Hamilton among the top tech talent markets in Canada

The CBRE, one of the largest commercial real estate services companies in the world, recently published a report that analyzed the tech market in Canada, ranking the top 20 cities “according to their competitive advantages and appeal to tech-talent workers and tech employers.”

Hamilton placed 10th overall, with Toronto, Ottawa, and Vancouver taking the top 3 spots.

Breaking down the city’s scorecard, Hamilton placed top 5 in Canada for quality of labour as well as real estate cost, and placed 6th in tech employment growth; however, it lagged behind others in tech concentration (the percent of tech occupations as compared to total employment), and total gross occupancy, placing 14th in both categories.

Another notable statistic is Hamilton’s 5-year growth: its tech talent labour pool has increased by 35.7%, second only to Waterloo among the country’s mid-sized markets (10,000 – 50,000 tech workers).

The CBRE also gave Hamilton an A- in terms of tech labour quality when compared with the average cost of tech labour in the city.
