SUMMARY:An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are all around us – from Siri on your iPhone to Google Map suggestions\, to recommendations for purchases during your Amazon check-out. While many of us may think AI and machine learning mean more robots and self-driving cars\, at a fundamental level\, they are about data – and ways to make meaning of data. \n\nWhat will you learn? \n \nIn this workshop\, we’ll use a hands-on project based approach to learn how to put data to use for us in our everyday lives. During the session\, you’ll learn the following: \n\nAn introduction to the history of artificial intelligence and machine learning\, what they mean and why it matters\nAn introduction to data and strategies for collection\, preparation\, manipulation and analysis of data\nAn introduction to machine learning models and predictive data\nBuild your very own machine learning model to evaluate data that’s interesting to you\nWhat resources are available if you’d like to continue learning at home (and we think you will) and career opportunities available in the fields of AI and machine learning

SUMMARY:CoderDojo Hamilton
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a free monthly coding club for youth which meets at McMaster University. This is where youth will partner with mentors to learn how to make a website\, how to make games\, and how to write a computer program! \nLIABILITY WAIVER \nIt is the policy of CoderDojo Hamilton that all participants be accompanied by an adult acting as their guardian. By participating in the event\, students and guardians agree:\n(1) CoderDojo Hamilton\, (it’s mentors\, partners and sponsors) are absolved from legal action resulting in personal injury.\n(2) To follow all posted rules\, including those outlined in the diversity and inclusiveness declaration below.\n(3) To pay for any damages to the facility caused by the result of *their family’s negligent\, reckless or willful actions.\n(4) I hereby grant permission to CoderDojoTo and its representatives to photograph and video me\, and otherwise capture my image\, and to make recordings of my voice at this event to be used anonymously on their website\, social media properties\, and/or in promotional material. \nI agree that I am under no pressure to sign this waiver of liability and have been given time to read and understand the terms. \nDIVERSITY & INCLUSIVENESS \nWe welcome and advocate for the presence and contributions of all people regardless of their gender\, gender identity\, gender expression\, sexual orientation\, age\, culture\, abilities\, ethnic origin\, marital status\, nationality\, race\, religion\, education\, or socioeconomic status. \nPrejudice\, oppression\, and discrimination are detrimental to the growth of a rich and vibrant community. CoderDojoTo is filled with diverse participants\, and supporting the visibility of such diversity enhances the experiences of all community members. As such\, we value inclusiveness and vigorously defend CoderDojoTo as a safe space for all participants. \nWe insist that everyone who uses the space—member or guest—remains mindful of\, and takes responsibility for\, their speech and behavior. This includes:\n– Always acting out of respect and concern for the free expression of others\n– Actively listening to others and not dominating discussions\n– Not making assumptions about identity\, experiences\, or preferred pronouns\n– Not using words that are racist\, sexist\, homophobic\, classist\, cissexist or ableist\n– Humbly accepting respectful correction (or correcting yourself!)\n– We do not tolerate destructive\, exclusionary\, abusive\, or silencing behavior\n– The terms we use to describe our experience are always changing\, and we are always learning. We are eager to maintain and defend the safety and inclusivity of this community. \nIf you think of something that is missing from this statement\, or a way we could improve it\, please send us an email at hamilton@coderdojo.ca. If you experience marginalizing or silencing behavior which limits your full participation in any CoderDojo event\, please talk to a volunteer in confidence (in person or via email).

This month our guest speaker is Oddbird Studios the studio behind Arrow Heads \nFrom 7:00-10:30 p.m.\, GameDevDrinks is the place for you to hang out and to hear Oddbird Studios speak about the trials and tribulations of Arrow Heads\, as well as get a hands-on experience with their latest game. Afterwards you can chat with Oddbird Studio\, share your game concepts and ideas\, tell and trade stories\, show off game demos or just network and hang out because at GDD our goal is to create a casual and creative social environment for anyone – student\, hobbyist\, enthusiast and professional alike – who shares the common interest of game development of any kind. \nWe look forward to seeing you on the 19th! \nRegards\, \n \nOddBird Studio is a collaboration of Sheridan Game Design students operating out of Oakville\, Ontario. The team came together to create an engaging and memorable game to submit to the Level Up Showcase in Toronto. Although we are currently laying the groundwork for our debut title Arrow Heads we are passionate about creating games that are not only fun to play\, but that push our design capabilities. While OddBird Studio may have started as a game project the team is always focused on moving forward with future developments; including a market release for Arrow Heads. \n

SUMMARY:Electronics Hamilton meetup
DESCRIPTION:Hey all\, hope you are well? \nCan you believe its been about a month since the first meetup? I figured we should get together and talk more hardware! \nThis time I thought we’d do more of an informal night to get to know people and bring/show projects plus it has the advantage of little organisation 🙂 \nSo this time it’s going to be held on Monday 22nd May at the Pheasant Plucker on Augusta at 7:30PM. I know it’s Victoria Day weekend\, so if you can make it please RSVP so we get an idea of numbers. \n1/2 price wings on Monday. $6 Cdn\, Coors Lt\, Stockie\, and the Pilsner. \nThis meetup is going to be reliant on you guys bringing the hardware! So bring your favourite/most recent project or the best piece of hardware you own\, that way we can see what everyones been up to. Don’t worry no one has to present – that is unless you want to 🙂 \nLooking forward to it and see you there!

SUMMARY:Ladies Learning Code: National Girls Learning Code Day
DESCRIPTION:On May 13th\, 2017\, Girls Learning Code is hosting its fourth annual National Girls Learning Code Day. On that day\, hundreds of Canadians girls and their parents will come together to challenge themselves to learn a new skill: digital storytelling & animation! \nTogether with their parents\, girls will: \n– Discover a passion for learning about technology \n– Experience the satisfaction that comes from being a builder of technology \n– Create an animated story using coding tools and concepts \n– Build confidence and develop a willingness to try new things \n  \nThe Workshop: \nFrom Saturday morning cartoons to blockbuster films\, animating has the power to inspire\, educate\, and entertain. Traditionally\, animation involves drawing several pictures\, sometimes thousands\, then playing them in sequence to create the illusion of movement.. Today\, we have digital tools that help us create animations more easily by letting us control characters\, backgrounds\, and even sounds with code. \nThis experience offers girls the opportunity to express their creativity in a super fun environment\, and learn about the different elements of a story\, as well as character interaction and basic design principles. Each Animating with Scratch workshop has the same flow\, but different activities. Come and create a new animation every time! \nUsing Scratch\, a beginner level programming environment\, girls will create interactive stories through animation. Girls will also be introduced to Scratch’s amazing online community\, sloganed: “Imagine\, Program\, Share\,” where they will have the opportunity to upload their stories for others to enjoy! \n
