SUMMARY:Electronics Hamilton meetup
DESCRIPTION:Hey all\, hope you are well? \nCan you believe its been about a month since the first meetup? I figured we should get together and talk more hardware! \nThis time I thought we’d do more of an informal night to get to know people and bring/show projects plus it has the advantage of little organisation 🙂 \nSo this time it’s going to be held on Monday 22nd May at the Pheasant Plucker on Augusta at 7:30PM. I know it’s Victoria Day weekend\, so if you can make it please RSVP so we get an idea of numbers. \n1/2 price wings on Monday. $6 Cdn\, Coors Lt\, Stockie\, and the Pilsner. \nThis meetup is going to be reliant on you guys bringing the hardware! So bring your favourite/most recent project or the best piece of hardware you own\, that way we can see what everyones been up to. Don’t worry no one has to present – that is unless you want to 🙂 \nLooking forward to it and see you there!

SUMMARY:Ladies Learning Code: National Girls Learning Code Day
DESCRIPTION:On May 13th\, 2017\, Girls Learning Code is hosting its fourth annual National Girls Learning Code Day. On that day\, hundreds of Canadians girls and their parents will come together to challenge themselves to learn a new skill: digital storytelling & animation! \nTogether with their parents\, girls will: \n– Discover a passion for learning about technology \n– Experience the satisfaction that comes from being a builder of technology \n– Create an animated story using coding tools and concepts \n– Build confidence and develop a willingness to try new things \n  \nThe Workshop: \nFrom Saturday morning cartoons to blockbuster films\, animating has the power to inspire\, educate\, and entertain. Traditionally\, animation involves drawing several pictures\, sometimes thousands\, then playing them in sequence to create the illusion of movement.. Today\, we have digital tools that help us create animations more easily by letting us control characters\, backgrounds\, and even sounds with code. \nThis experience offers girls the opportunity to express their creativity in a super fun environment\, and learn about the different elements of a story\, as well as character interaction and basic design principles. Each Animating with Scratch workshop has the same flow\, but different activities. Come and create a new animation every time! \nUsing Scratch\, a beginner level programming environment\, girls will create interactive stories through animation. Girls will also be introduced to Scratch’s amazing online community\, sloganed: “Imagine\, Program\, Share\,” where they will have the opportunity to upload their stories for others to enjoy! \n

SUMMARY:IF Lunch 'n Learn
DESCRIPTION:2017 has been a year for addressing the challenges women face in entrepreneurship and the startup world. Female-only accelerators and funding initiatives are catching on. But are these initiatives the only answer to a myriad of challenges? What are the larger issues that female entrepreneurs face? \nJoin Innovation Factory and The Forge for a stimulating panel discussion as we unpack this complex topic. This Lunch ‘n Learn session will feature an inspiring group of female leaders and entrepreneurs leading the discussion. Our goal is to investigate both the hurdles and advantages of being a female entrepreneur\, to challenge and inspire the next generation. \nDo women bring unique strengths to entrepreneurship? Are women less likely to put themselves forward as experts or mentors? Is there really a funding bias towards men-founded startups and companies or is it something more? \nBring your curiosity and an open mind as we begin to explore these and many more important issues with our panel of expert entrepreneurs! \nAgenda: \n\n11:30 am – 12: 00 pm\nLunch & Networking\n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm\nFemale Leaders and Entrepreneurs Panel\n1:00 pm – 2:00 pm\nDessert & Networking

SUMMARY:CoderCamp
DESCRIPTION:CoderCamp Hamilton is an almost monthly “platform agnostic” user group for local software developers to listen to some presentations and learn new things in a casual\, friendly setting. It’s also a great place to practice your next conference talk. Interested in giving a CoderCamp presentation? Email codercamphamilton@gmail.com and we’ll add you to the list of scheduled talks. \nDamian Brady (@damovisa)\, a solution architect with Octopus Deploy will talk about Brownfield DevOps in Practice.\nAre you ready to continuously deploy every commit to production and deploy 25 times a day? Can your operations team tear down and spin up VMs and containers for your app like they’re nothing? Can your company track production usage and toggle features at the whims of the marketing department? No? \nWe all know it’s not quite that easy. You can’t take an existing house-of-cards monolith and just start treating it like a unicorn\, as much as everyone would like to. But as a developer\, you can start to make practical inroads\, and you can do it now. \nThis talk looks at DevOps culture from the point of view of a developer – how code changes can affect the agility of your organisation. We’ll discuss architectural changes\, design techniques\, deployment pipelines\, and how to make large changes safely. Developers at any level will leave with some practical ways to support your company’s DevOps efforts and start working better with your ops team.
