SUMMARY:eHealth is a team sport - Hacking Health meetup
DESCRIPTION:This month\, McMaster’s Master of Science in eHealth program is hosting us at the new McMaster Centre for Continuing Education\, right at the corner of King and James. You may have noticed this ultra-modern upgrade to the existing building as you passed by. Now we have a chance to get inside and enjoy their hospitality. \nWhat are they up to at Mac eHealth? You may also have heard about the Mac eHealth program. It’s a unique three-way joint venture of the business school and the faculties of health science and engineering\, aiming to bring Master students up to speed on health\, information and management sciences. The interdisciplinary program brings together programmers\, front-line staff\, admin\, and clinicians. \nWe have two awesome groups presenting this month! \n \nMyHealth PHRI: Dr. Cynthia Lokker from eHealth and Dr. Itzhak Gabizon from PHRI are developing a research app to evaluate the effectiveness of mobile health apps. They are drawing on rigorous research methods to evaluate which health apps actually work — something that is desperately needed in a field with hundreds of thousands of poorly vetted apps out there. \n \nVirtual Ward: Dr. Richard Sztramko will present the virtual ward he’s developed to facilitate communication among clinicians during patient handovers within a hospital ward. \nFinally: \nInterested in collaborating with Mac researchers and students? Learn how you can take advantage of opportunities to work with the Mac eHealth program and others!

SUMMARY:Forge@MAC: The iUGO Health Story - Building a Life Sciences Startup
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, November 8\, 2016 for a panel inside look at how three healthcare companies got their start. \nAppetizers to be provided. \nBlue Orchid was founded with a simple mission – to create and design simple innovative solutions for challenges that face millions of caregivers every day. Our aim is to create and develop assistive living products aimed towards increasing the quality of life for both patients and caregivers. Whether it is family members or professional caregivers\, we want to ensure that by using our products the patient can receive optimal care without frustration or injury for both parties involved. Our goal is to analyze and design products that would allow the patient to maintain their independence for as long as possible within the comfort of their home. Our first line of products will focus on mitigating the loss of mobility from aging\, and will provide affordable\, simple solutions with regards to lifting\, moving and handling the patient at home. \nInput Health is a digital health company that produces intuitive cloud-based tools to help patients and their healthcare providers connect in meaningful\, outcome-driven ways\, enabling the provision of value-based healthcare. The company is led by a dynamic team of physicians\, veteran health software developers and user experience designers with a substantial track record of successful technology developments in the digital health industry in Canada and abroad. InputHealth has created an ecosystem of synergistic tools (the IH modules) that utilize modern web and mobile technology to augment or disrupt traditional mechanisms of healthcare delivery. These modules include functionalities such as online appointment booking\, secure digital questionnaires and an innovative eReferral system. InputHealth is poised to become a global leader in patient engagement technologies\, and is looking to create a paradigm shift in the electronic health record market through their flagship product that combines their entire array of modules – the Collaborative Health Record. \nCareKit was founded during an eHealth conference in Toronto. It is a comprehensive software and hardware solution that monitors and manages at-home patients with the use of wearables and sensors. A short while later\, ReliqHealth acquired CareKit (rebranded iUGO Health) for $2 million in shares and performance warrants.

SUMMARY:Tiko 3D - Students who made millions through Kickstarter
DESCRIPTION:  \nCan you 3D print success? \nFor the young entrepreneurs behind TIKO 3D\, it turns out you can. \nThe group invented the most affordable and simple 3D printer on the market\, and launched one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns ever- raising $3.5 million CDN in 30 days\, with more than 16\,000 world-wide backers. (Read more about their start-up success-http://sparkcentre.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/2015-Spark-Centre-Annual-Report-Tiko.pdf) \nSo what does it take to be a successful tech inventor and entrepreneur? \nIt starts with an Idea. Tiko was founded by Matt Gajkowski (CEO)\, Sharon Charitar (CFO) and Michael Zhang (SCM.) The team created Tiko whilst they were university students\, frustrated by the lack of 3D printing in education and the over complicated 3D printers that were being marketed to consumers. This small team designed and created the first prototype of Tiko and took the Kickstarter world by storm. \nTheir new printer is a breakthrough in accessible 3D Printing\, poised to transform how designers\, engineers\, manufactures and students approach 3D Printing and prototyping. \nRegister now to hear their story!
