SUMMARY:Ladies Learning Code
DESCRIPTION:  \nWhat is Ladies Learning Code? \n  \nWe’re a Canada wide not-for-profit organization providing women\, *men and youth the opportunity to learn beginner-friendly technical skills in a social and collaborative way. We’re all about showing people that learning to code can be fun!\n*Men are welcome to attend (and they do!)\, but we encourage you to bring an additional female learner where possible \n  \n  \nWhat is National Learn to Code Day? \n  \nOn September 24th\, 2016\, Ladies Learning Code is hosting its fourth annual National Learn to Code Day — the first and only event of its kind in Canada. On that day\, over 1\,500 Canadians will gather together in over 25 communities to challenge themselves to learn a new skill: interactive storytelling and game making using HTML & CSS.\nIn partnership with Shopify\, we’ll build on our mission of teaching Canadians 21st century digital skills and encourage them to tell their stories through one of the most popular digital mediums: gaming. \n  \n  \nWhy Interactive Storytelling & Game Making? \nFrom video games to interactive stories\, digital media is a powerful way to make your message\, cause\, or idea stand out in a crowded online world. \nCanada has become a major leader in the video game industry\, yet\, like most technology\, only a small percentage of games are built by women. \nIn this hands-on\, beginner-friendly workshop\, you will create a game\, quiz\, or interactive story that’s centred on a case\, community\, or message that you care about while learning critical coding skills \n  \n. \nIs this workshop for you? \n  \nThis workshop has been designed for absolute beginners. If you know absolutely nothing about coding or computer programming\, you’ve come to the right place! Our only expectation is that you know how to open up a web browser and do something online like checking your email. (But if you’re reading this\, we’re pretty sure you know how to do that.)

SUMMARY:Internet of Things meetup - Lets talk about cloud services for IoT
DESCRIPTION:First I’d like to thank Greg Trasuk of Webage Solutions for generously sponsoring the snacks and drinks for our next meetup. Now\, I just have to see about sneaking beer into CoMotion 😉 \nAlso\, I’d like to thank everyone who come out to the last meeting. I’m sure you were as disappointed as I was that the Onion folks did not make it. But Its understandable. BTW their Kickstarter reached ~$672K!!! Hopefully I will be able to get them to come to a future meetup. \nThis time around I’m going talk about the many different ways that microcontrollers can interact with other devices and services on the internet. Its not just about getting data off a sensor platform to a database or webpage. A large part of IoT cloud computing is connecting IoT devices\, web APIs for services\, databases\, and other devices together to create applications. There are a lot of offerings out there from Temboo on the simple side to the full blown enterprise IoT cloud solutions offered by the big players such as Amazon. And the Omega has its own cloud solution as well. \nIf anyone else is interested in presenting a talk\, let me know.

SUMMARY:HTML & CSS for Beginners by Ladies Learning Code
DESCRIPTION:What is Ladies Learning Code?\n \nWe’re a Canada wide not-for-profit organization providing women\, *men and youth the opportunity to learn beginner-friendly technical skills in a social and collaborative way. We’re all about showing people that learning to code can be fun! \n*Men are welcome to attend (and they do!)\, but we encourage you to bring an additional female learner where possible \n  \nWhy HTML & CSS?\n \nIf you are looking to get your feet wet when it comes to programming\, then this is the workshop for you. HTML and CSS are the backbone of all websites\, and knowledge of them is a necessity if you are interested in things like web development\, creating marketing emails\, or even blogging! The web without HTML and CSS would be would be a world without colourful\, pretty websites\, not to mention the web applications we all use daily. It’s easy to learn\, and was designed so that everyone – even non-programmers – can do it. No fancy programs are needed\, just Notepad and a web browser! \nThe Ladies Learning Code Introduction to HTML & CSS workshop is designed to be a hands-on experience. \nDuring the session\, you’ll build something like this and learn the following:\n– Basic techniques and concepts that are translatable to other programming languages\n– The building blocks of how HTML and CSS work together to create richer online experiences\n– How to create a rich website with images\, video\, and a CSS-defined layout\n– How to create a beautiful multi-page website\n– What resources are available if you’d like to continue learning at home (and we think you will) \n  \nIs this workshop for you?\n \nThis workshop has been designed for absolute beginners. If you know absolutely nothing about coding or computer programming\, you’ve come to the right place! Our only expectation is that you know how to open up a web browser and do something online like checking your email. (But if you’re reading this\, we’re pretty sure you know how to do that.) \n
