We meet to talk about coding\, software development\, and technology to learn from each other and get better at what we do in the process. \nDavid Beckford will demonstrate Chordalina and introduce the Max/MSP language used to create the software. It takes years for an individual to develop the coordination and dexterity to perform a traditional instrument. Chordalina includes people in the music making process\, by allowing them to shape layers of music over time – like clay on a wheel. \nWe are always looking for speakers or lightning talks. SUMMARY:Data Analytics: Hidden Worlds of Information on the Web
DESCRIPTION:Open-source intelligence (OSNIT) is the insight gained from processing and analyzing public data sources such as broadcast TV and radio\, social media\, and websites. These sources provide data in text\, video\, image\, and audio formats. \nWilliam Donovan\, director of the Office of Strategic Services\, the precursor to the modern CIA\, once said: “Even a regimented press will\, again and again\, betray their nation’s interests to a painstaking observer.” This statement rings truer than ever today in a world where every person\, group\, and the organization has some form of digital presence\, and where valuable information can be discovered by those willing to undertake the work of collecting\, processing\, and analyzing publicly available data hidden in plain sight. \nWith billions of posts\, images\, streams\, records\, and data uploaded to the internet every day\, surprisingly few of us realize the huge potential for finding useful intelligence about virtually anyone and anything. Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is the science and the art of generating accurate and timely insights from public data. \nThis talk will discuss some key methods for finding a wide variety of information in the online world. Attendees will learn some valuable techniques for conducting better and quicker web and social media searches and for determining the source and accuracy of information. \nTakeaways: \n1. Make every one of your online searches more effective. \n2. Learn tips and tricks for finding information on Facebook\, Twitter\, and other sources. \n3. Learn how to assess sources for truthfulness and accuracy. \nAgenda: \n\nPresentation: 10:00am-11:30am\nNetworking: 11:30am-12:00pm\n\nLight refreshments available \n\nAbout the Speaker: Sami Khoury \n \nSami Khoury served as a US open source officer\, linguist\, and analyst for over 15 years. A subject matter expert in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) tradecraft and operations and in large scale public data collection and mining\, Mr. Khoury became a sought-after training developer\, designer\, and instructor\, delivering training to intelligence\, law enforcement\, and military personnel worldwide in diverse subject areas ranging from OSINT procedures\, tools\, and methods to natural language processing and machine learning.

SUMMARY:Intro to User Experience (UX) Design
DESCRIPTION:Why learn about UX design? \nWith great design comes great responsibility. User experience (UX) design isn’t just about creating pretty or functioning websites – it’s about creative solutioning and trying to make people’s lives and experiences better. \nAs designers\, we need to remember that we aren’t designing products for ourselves\, but for other people. Being a UX designer allows you to work with and problem solve for a variety of different people\, and empathy plays a huge part in this. \nDuring this collaborative learning experience\, we’ll explore the difference between UI and UX\, and how they work together. We’ll walk through the design cycle; including discovery\, user testing\, and user personas. Learners will also have a chance to experience different UX methods through hands-on exercises\, including building physical and digital prototypes. \nPrerequisites:\nNone! This workshop is designed for beginners.
