McMaster Innovation Showcase

DESCRIPTION

The McMaster Innovation Showcase demonstrates the role that McMaster plays in translating research into the community through entrepreneurship and commercialization. In addition to showcasing new and exciting technologies developed by students and faculty members of McMaster, this year’s Innovation Showcase brings together researchers, industry, and successful entrepreneurs. Our focus is to encourage students, post-docs, and new faculty to pursue entrepreneurship, industry experience, and commercialization. By bridging the academic and commercial sectors, we can create dialogue that will shape our innovation culture towards economic and social prosperity.

This year’s event will feature:

Keynote address

This year’s keynote address features Kurtis McBride, CEO of Miovision. A multinational startup which has raised tens of millions of dollars to provide innovative solutions to traffic congestion. Miovision is helping municipalities update outdated traffic management systems and providing solutions to help reduce gridlock on a global scale.

Poster competition
The poster competition will showcase some of the newest technologies that are being developed at McMaster. In keeping with our theme surrounding entrepreneurship and commercialization, there will be a focus on discoveries with commercial potential as well as social impact. Click here to submit an abstract!

Case study sessions
Successful entrepreneurs will take the stage to discuss their journeys and experiences in reaching their goals. Each session will consist of two half-hour case studies. Entrepreneurs will speak followed by an interactive Q&A opportunity for each company.

Careers in Investment and Experiences in Fund Raising Panel
This session will be an opportunity to gain insight on investment careers and fundraising from experienced professionals. Panelists will discuss topics set out by one of Bloom Burton’s advisors on scientific and medical diligence, Armand Balboni. The audience will have an opportunity to interact with the panel and ask questions. An IP professional from Bereskin & Parr, a large law firm specializing in Intellectual Property protection, will also be available to take questions.

NSERC/OCE Breakout Session
A presentation highlighting NSERC/OCE successes and program funding opportunities will take place followed by a Q&A.

Award Ceremony
Celebrating & honoring McMaster researchers’ achievements in securing patents and progressing technology and science beyond its current limits. Please see here for the forms if you would like to nominate a researcher.

Networking Opportunities
With a mix of entrepreneurs, academics, and industry representatives present, this event is the perfect opportunity to expand your network.
