Hamilton video game industry at this week’s Art Crawl

I’m pretty sure everyone in Hamilton and many outside the city have heard of it by now, but every 2nd Friday of the month is Art Crawl on James North. Thousands of people walk up and down the street checking out the different art galleries, buying food and drinks, and just generally having a good time. The impact of these things on James Street has been huge, with big brother event Super Crawl bringing Hamilton national coverage. Though many people must put in a lot of volunteer hours making these things happen, the event is pretty organic, and as a result, inclusive. There’s everything from handmade crafts sold on the sidewalk, to buskers with an open guitar case, to poetry slams, and more. If you haven’t been yet, then you need to go to an Art Crawl.

You should definitely check out the Art Crawl on Friday April 12th (they seem to start at around 6:30pm and remain busy for hours afterwards). That’s because in the Tourism Hamilton Visitor Centre inside Lister Block there will be displays from Hamilton video game companies like Battlegoat Studios, Green Pixel, and Hard Circle. I’m so glad to see software added to the awesome, eclectic mix of creative works that make up an Art Crawl, and it’s wonderful that Toursim Hamilton has put this together. Video games played a well documented role in helping to revitalize the Mile End district of Montreal, maybe they can do the same for Hamilton? I hope you can make it by on Friday night to check out some made-in-Hamilton video games!
