Hire a Mohawk College ICT program co-op student

I’ve been teaching at Mohawk College for almost a year now, and the students up here are fantastic. I just wanted to create a quick blog article to make some more people aware of how they can go about hiring Mohawk College students, and the tax benefits.

What computer technologist programs does Mohawk College offer?

Just for the sake of background, at Mohawk College we offer four diploma programs in the ICT field. All of the programs offer 4-month co-ops at varying times in the student’s progress throughout the programs (and at some points allow students to do sequential 4-month co-ops, essentially allowing a student to stay 8-months at a single company).

What are the tax benefits of hiring a Mohawk College co-op student?

“The Co-operative Education Tax Credit (CETC) is a refundable tax credit available to employers who hire students enrolled in a co-op program at an Ontario college or university. The CETC is based on salaries and wages paid to a student in a co-operative education work placement. The maximum credit for each work placement is $3,000. Most work placements are for a minimum employment period of 10 weeks up to a maximum of four months.” – mohawkcollege.ca/jobcentre/employers/taxcredit.html

When are co-op students available, what are their capabilities, and what is there salary range?

The salary range, availability, and capabilities of students varies by program, and by their amount of progress in the program thus far. You can check out these PDF documents for all the details for each program:
