Software Hamilton seeking an Events Editor and News Editor

Interested in helping the local technology and tech startup community? Want to give back to your region in a grassroots, volunteer capacity?

Software Hamilton is looking for an Events Editor and a News Editor for a one year term beginning now. Neither role is super difficult, they can be described in about 2 pages of instructions that you will be provided, and mostly involve updating a WordPress site. The hope with these roles is to have a blog and a calendar that are more up to date than right now. I think they’d be great for a student looking to learn and get involved, but I’m open! If you’re interested in either position, please send an e-mail to softwarehamilton@gmail.com including why you’re interested, and a LinkedIn profile link and/or resume.

Events Editor

Description: The Events Editor will ensure the Software Hamilton calendar is up to date with the latest technology and startup events happening in the City of Hamilton.  The role will involve checking calendars and meetups once per week for relevant events and entering them into the calendar. It’s expected to take no more than a one hour a week commitment.

Term: August 2019 – July 2020.  We’re hoping for a one year commitment, though if you want to keep doing it afterwards, that’s welcome as well.

Benefits: Software Hamilton as a grassroots community hub and does not generate revenue, so the only real personal benefit to contributing is 1) recognition on the homepage under the About panel, with your name listed as the Events Editor and a link to your Twitter or LinkedIn, 2) learning about what’s happening in the community, 3) a letter of reference (assuming that a student may be interested in this).

News Editor

Description:

The News Editor will post articles to the Software Hamilton blog featuring the latest technology and startup news happening in Hamilton.  The role will involve posting and formatting stories – press releases, events, etc, and sharing the stories on social media channels. It’s expected to take roughly a 0.5-2 hour a week commitment.
